The Electric was Timex's battery-powered balance-wheel watch. The earliest Electrics came from the acquisition of Laco (Lacher & Co.) of Pforzheim, Germany, by the United States Time Corporation, as Timex was then called, on 1 February 1959. The 1962 Electrics run on the M67, the movement the 1962 catalog listings name. The M84 replaced it from 1965, and the M85 added a calendar in 1968.
In 1969–1972 the line used the smaller M40 and M41. The Dynabeat models of 1975–1976 carried the high-frequency M253 and M254, alongside the Electronic M51 and M65 in the Dynabeat Time Zone. A 1970 prototype from the collection of Paul Wuthrich, a former head of R&D at Timex, is a 9617 in a diver-style case that never reached the market in that form.
